Taylor is living in a “super-size me” world. The Jones family often consumes large fast food meals because of convenience and low cost. These meals are high in calories and processed sugars and fat, which can lead to obesity and type 2 diabetes when combined with a lack of physical activity.


Each year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) compiles statistics on the leading causes of death. In 2021, type 2 diabetes accounted for 103,294 deaths, and according to the American Diabetes Association, cost the U.S. $327 billion per year. But Taylor does not have to end up as another statistic. As a member of Taylor’s healthcare team your job is to help the 15-year-old manage his type 2 diabetes and lifestyle choices.
