Stewart is living in a “super-size me” world. The Jones family often consumes large fast food meals because of convenience and low cost. These meals are high in calories, processed sugars and fat which leads to obesity and possibly type 2 diabetes, when they are combined with a lack of physical activity.
Each year the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) compiles statistics on the leading causes of death. In 2017, type 2 diabetes accounted for 83,564 deaths, and according to the American Diabetes Association, cost the U.S. $327 billion per year. Stewart, although he is now an amputee, does not have to end up as another statistic. With the other members of Stewart’s care team, use the myStation® PowerPoint presentation to develop a care plan for Stewart that reviews his information while in the hospital, but also will help him become healthier and possibly reverse some of the effects of his type 2 diabetes.
