Because of his X-ray results, symptoms and smoking history, the physician decides to send Rob for an immediate computed tomography (CT) scan at Hitech Medical Center.


Rob is admitted to the hospital for the CT scan, which also indicates areas of concern. Rob’s test results indicate lung cancer, but additional tests are needed to confirm the diagnosis, determine the type of cancer and the stage of his cancer; referring to the extent to which the cancer has spread. Following the scan, a biopsy and sputum cytology are scheduled.
