These two words — heart attack — strike fear in Dan and in many other Americans. Each year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) compile statistics on the leading causes of death. In 2017, 110,346 people died of a myocardial infarction, a.k.a. a heart attack. Additionally, statistics show that over 790,000 American have a heart attack every year.

Dan’s heart attack was unnecessary and preventable, and he does not have to end up as another death statistic. As a member of his health care team, you will continue to evaluate Dan’s progress, but a care plan will need to be in place to ensure that he doesn’t have another heart attack or even die. With the other members of Dan’s care team, use the myStation® PowerPoint presentation and develop a care plan that reviews his hospital experience, but also provides steps for Dan to become healthier and possibly reverse some of the effects of his poor lifestyle choices.
