  1. Review Dan’s VPE: Dan is immediately put on Activase through an intravenous (IV) line in the arm. Use information from VPE to explain this medication and why it is important for Dan to take it as soon as possible.


  2. Internet Research: The physician prescribes nitroglycerin and heparin. Why?


  3. Review Dan’s EHR. You notice that the physician has recommended several medications. What are these medications?

As a medical and health services manager, you are ultimately responsible for ensuring that Dan receives the best overall care possible. You will also compile Dan’s bills, consisting of his tests, procedures, room charges, supplies and medications. Using his EHRs, Virtual Physical Exam (VPE) and Internet research, answer the questions and be prepared to verify the responses with the rest of Dan’s health care team.


To determine the cost of Dan’s ED visit and hospital inpatient stay, you will need the following:

  1. Use the blank copy of Dan’s ED and Inpatient bills and the Bill Reference to calculate and track his costs. In his EHRs, look for costs in the areas of labs, pathology, medications (be sure to pay attention to how many times during his stay each was administered) and diagnostics. Health Coach

Below is a summary of Ryan’s EHR activity during the two hours he is in the ED. As the health coach, you will recommend lifestyle changes to alleviate symptoms, prevent symptoms from recurring and decrease the need for future emergency care or hospitalization. You will also provide the education he needs to understand his diagnosis and the risk factors that may have caused his condition. Using his EHR, Virtual Physical Exam (VPE) and Internet research, answer the questions and be prepared to discuss the responses with the rest of Dan’s health care team.


  1. Review Dan’s VPE: Review the image of Dan’s angiograph. What does it indicate?


  2. Internet Research: The physician will diagnose Dan and select the best treatment option after reviewing all of Dan’s test results and health history. In the meantime, you want to provide Dan with information about possible treatments. List the different treatment options for heart disease and provide basic information about each.


  3. Review Dan’s EHR: What are the results of his Lipid Profile panel?


  4. Internet Research: Provide Dan with information on how he can lower his Lipid Profile (cholesterol) through exercise.


  5. Internet Research: One dietary suggestion for Dan to lower his cholesterol is to consume foods that are low in saturated fat and high in monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. Define each type of fat and explain why they have been recommended to Dan?
